Sexual Violence Advocacy Training Workshop

October, 2015

In Jasikan, Volta Region, Ghana, West Africa

This 3-Day Workshop will promote effective sexual violence advocacy, prevention and intervention through the following programs:

Green Dot Program:

  • Addressing the root causes of sexual violence including cultural beliefs about power and traditional gender roles.
  • Promoting healthy relationships skills, such as:
    • Increased self-esteem & self-efficacy
    • Effective interpersonal boundaries
    • Expanding understandings of gender expression beyond power, violence, and sexuality
  • Increasing social-activism and leadership skills – creating opportunities for boys and men to be equally responsible for preventing sexual assault as girls and women.
  • Educating community members how to help and support others.
  • Providing Sexual Assault Resource Team (SART) Peer Education:
    • Raise awareness about all aspects of sexual violence to ultimately reduce the incidence of sexual assault and sexual harassment among today's youth through peer education.
    • As a result of this training, Peer Educators are seen as role-models and advocates against sexual violence within their school communities.

Jasikan Teachers Training College:

Attendees will be taught how to identify sexual abuse victims, how to reach out into the community to help those in need, and how to provide referrals and resources to help the victims heal and get the help they need to move forward in their lives.

A Window Between Worlds:

By providing an environment that promotes healing, art workshops will be held to help teach advocates how to help women, teen, and children to develop a renewed sense of hope and possibility that will profoundly impact their future decisions regarding the direction of their lives, their relationships, and how to stay safe. Art empowers survivors to transform how they view themselves, allowing them to see past the abusive messages they learned from their batterers and rebuild their self-confidence.
